Inoculate your own hardwood logs
Hardwood logs or stumps should be cut in the dormant season from disease free trees. I prefer dowel or sawdust spawn to inoculate logs as birds tend to peck out grain spawn! Beech, oak or birch are highly recommended but most hard woods are suitable. Our calculations are based on logs 50cm long by 10cm diameter or pro rata for stumps.
Kits include fully inoculated dowels, wax, applicator and instructions. You will need logs, a drill, a 10mm spur drill bit or 8-9mm hss bit and something to melt the wax.
