Edible mushrooms can be easily grown on fresh cut logs. The logs are best cut through the winter but I am happy to use logs cut through out the summer / autumn, I try not to use logs cut in early spring when the sap is rising. Logs should be no more that 6 weeks old and cut from healthy trees. I inoculate as soon after cutting as possible to prevent wild fungi establishing in the logs before your chosen mushrooms can start growing.
You can either use dowels /plugs or sawdust spawn, I would recommend sawdust spawn if you are doing large numbers of logs. One bag will inoculate 50 half meter long logs
